Air to air heat pumps in Cardiff
Air to air heat pumps suit many Cardiff homes, especially flats and smaller homes on electric heating. A typical install for a flat or small house is about £4,500, and if you're replacing gas, oil, LPG or electric heating the £2,500 grant comes off that. Tell us about your home and we'll pass your enquiry to up to three F-gas certified installers who cover Cardiff.
Cardiff homes and air to air heat pumps
Cardiff's inner suburbs, such as Roath, Cathays, Canton and Splott, are mostly Victorian terraces, with many in Cathays let to students. Pontcanna and Penylan have larger period houses, and Cardiff Bay has a big stock of apartments, many heated electrically.
What to know locally
- Grant in Wales: the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant applies in Wales on the same conditions as England.

- Planning in Wales: Wales has its own permitted development rules for heat pumps, which differ from England's. Check with Cardiff Council before installing.

- Surrounding areas: we also cover Penarth, Barry, Caerphilly, Pontypridd and Newport.
Grant
The £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant covers Wales as well as England. The system must replace your existing heating, be able to meet your home's heating needs, and be fitted by an installer MCS certified for air to air. It doesn't heat water, so plan for that if you're removing a boiler.
Planning
Wales has its own permitted development rules for heat pumps, so check with Cardiff Council before installing. See our planning guide.
