Air to air heat pumps in Liverpool
Air to air heat pumps suit many Liverpool homes, especially flats and smaller homes on electric heating. A typical install for a flat or small house is about £4,500, and if you're replacing gas, oil, LPG or electric heating the £2,500 grant comes off that. Tell us about your home and we'll pass your enquiry to up to three F-gas certified installers who cover Liverpool.
Liverpool homes and air to air heat pumps
Liverpool has a mix of small Victorian two-up two-down terraces in areas like Anfield, Walton and Kensington, larger Georgian and Victorian houses in the Georgian Quarter and around Sefton Park (many now flats), suburban semis further out, and waterfront and city-centre apartments.
What to know locally
- Georgian Quarter and Sefton Park: many buildings are listed or in conservation areas, so units usually need to go at the rear and may need consent.
- Converted houses: flats in converted townhouses often share outside walls, so freeholder consent and siting for the neighbours both matter.
- Coastal air: near the river and coast, ask about corrosion-protected outdoor units.
- Surrounding areas: we also cover the Wirral, Bootle, Crosby, Southport, St Helens, Prescot and Widnes.
Grant
The £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant applies in Liverpool as in the rest of England. The system must replace your existing heating, be able to meet your home's heating needs, and be fitted by an installer MCS certified for air to air. It doesn't heat water, so plan for that if you're removing a boiler.
Planning
In England, a unit that provides heating is usually permitted development if it's installed to MCS 020 and meets the size, siting and 42 dB noise limits. Planning decisions here are made by Liverpool City Council (Wirral, Sefton, Knowsley and St Helens have their own). See our planning guide.
